Alentasia – Singapore

Last month, I came to know Geraldine Wong, a purveyor of gourmet fine food for Alentasia.com, an online marketplace that specialises in gourmet food and fine wines solely from Portugal. They select their products from passionate Portuguese food producers and experienced wine makers to ensure that they bring you the bestselling fine food from Portugal. She was very generous to let us try everything from famed Port Wine to tin canned Bacalao. I was taken aback how good the canned fishes were and made a good nostalgia of my travels to the blue tiled country. The whole tasting experience really brought a sense of Portugal to Singapore during this uncertain times.

Alentasia’s goal is to let you experience Portugal through their honest produce. From Extra Virgin olive oils/honey to BPA free gourmet canned fish caught from the Atlantic Ocean. They also have long standing wineries partners across from the North to the South of Portugal and some are boutique wineries with small harvests and productions while others may have a history of more than 300 years.

Portuguese foods, known as part of the Mediterranean diet, are gaining popularity due to positive associations with healthy living. We highly recommend Porthos Sardines in Olive Oil, Briosa Garfish in Spices Olive Oil, authentic Macarico Piri Piri Hot Sauce, Luis Pato Vinhas Velhas white wine, Mouchao Olive Oil and my ultimate favorite Tricana Grilled Cod Fish with Garlic and Olive Oil.

Portugal is also the World’s #12 producer of wines, that is approximately 6.2 million hectolitres. With over 250 indigenous grapes, these are the ones used to make the country’s best wines. Portuguese wine tradition is based on blends, therefore they are most often known as the Master of Blends. Wines from Adega Mouchao are the most sought after on Alentasia.

” The best fish in the world comes from Portugal, in a can!” someone once said. Try it for yourself.

One of the most unique drink I had during the tasting was the Pastal De Nata Licor, its a sweet Portuguese egg tart liquor which compliments the none other: Egg tarts! Can’t travel to Portugal soon? Don’t worry, If you haven’t had your culinary experience of Portugal, this is where you should start! Alentasia.com – Peek into Portugal Gastronomy – one of Europe’s best kept secret indeed.
